We are church that loves God, loves each other and we want to share that love with everyone. We are a church that welcomes anyone and everyone. At Calvary Centre, you will find a church that will welcome you with open arms, a family that you can belong to, a place where you will always experience God’s love and hope, a church where you will discover God’s plan for you, and an environment where you can use your skills, talents and gifts to fulfill your purpose in life. Families matter to us and every individual is important to us, so even though our congregation is large, we also meet in smaller gatherings during the week called Care Cells, because life is always better together. We invite you to scroll through our website and learn more about us and look forward to meeting you in person.
Rev Vernon Perera, the eldest son of Vernon & Christoble Perera was born in Colombo 1952, He was the third in line, with six other siblings. His parents who first committed their lives to God in 1961, provided for Vernon a fine example of Christian living, especially in connection with changed moral qualities and behavior. In 1970 at the age of 18, God spoke to Pastor Vernon inaudibly and clearly to leave school and come into ministry. He entered Bible school in January 1971 and graduated on the 10th April 1974, with the message ‘Where there is no vision the people perish”. He started his ministry living in a rented house at 36 Lourdes Avenue Ja –Ela, Until the building at No 239 Colombo Road Ja –Ela was constructed and completed in 1977. Rev Vernon and Deci were married in October 1977 and were blessed with Daughter Dinali (now married to Aravinda Tissera) & son Virukshan (Now married to Saumya). Under the leadership of Rev Vernon Perera, Calvary Centre not only met the spiritual needs of the people but also catered to the needs of the whole man. One of the greatest attractions of this Church has been the most solemn words of Jesus Christ “Come unto me All who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest”. Literally hundreds and thousands have been drawn by these words and the growth of this Church has been based on the reality of this experience. In 2003 God impressed upon Pastor Vernon to build a new sanctuary which could seat 5000 and a school in Ja Ela. Today it has become a reality through the generosity of all those who have supported this project and continue to support with their time, talent and finance. The oneness and the unity of the congregation towards accomplishing this vision will no doubt be remembered for generations to come. The Church shifted to its new facilities, at No 16 Station Road Kapuwatha, Ja-ela in the year of 2009. Even though it took many years of trials and testings, this day proved that “Faith in God will never be Futile” Pastor Vernon’s wife Pastor Deci went to be with the Lord on the 26th of November 2020 and approximately 7 months later, on what would have been his wife Deci’s 72nd birthday, Rev. Vernon Perera went to be with the Lord on the 13th of June 2021. As in all things authored by God, the vision of God outlasts the man of God. Through Pastor Vernon’s ministry, thousands were blessed in Ja Ela and the surrounding areas, and many churches were planted across Sri Lanka. What the Lord began He will continue to fulfill in the now and the future.
Pas. Lohan Bibile has been married to Adele Beling since 1998 and they are blessed with two daughters, Tiana and Kaya. Pastor Lohan left a flying career at Sri Lankan Airlines and joined Peoples Church in a Full Time capacity in 2001. In 2001 he began to serve as the Worship Pastor of Peoples Church Colombo, while his wife, Adele served as the Choir Director. Their lives and ministry took a dramatic turn after the 2004 Tsunami, when they moved to the southern city of Galle to assist the ministry of Assembly of God, Galle and the post-Tsunami relief effort. In 2006, Pastor Lohan became the Senior Pastor of Assembly of God Galle. He describes the 2006-2008 period as the toughest training ground of their lives, which he believes was the price of admission for the ministry the Lord had prepared for them. In 2008, he had an encounter with the Lord and was given a clear vision that AG Galle was going to be ‘a church without walls’. Over the next 12 years, through a strategic plan combining focused church planting, community engaging programs and a small group ministry primarily run by lay-leaders, God transformed the 85-year old church, raising it up to be the largest church in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.
In 2010 Pastor Lohan earned a Master of Divinity from the Lanka Bible College. A year after, while leading the church in Galle, he became the Missions Director of Peoples Church, leading the missions ministry of Peoples Church across Sri Lanka and the world. In 2014, he began his doctorate studies at Asbury Theological Seminary, Kentucky, USA, and graduated with honors with a Doctor of Ministry. Adele, is an Honors graduate in English who holds a Diploma in music and singing from Trinity College London. She is a teacher by profession and is the Director of Adele’s School of Vocal Music. She has a burden for small groups and has been used extensively in the area of counselling. She is currently pursuing her further studies in counselling. After the passing away of the Founding pastor, the Governing Board of Calvary Centre unanimously elected Pastor Lohan Bibile on the 15th of October 2021 as the Senior Pastor of the church.
